WHAT’S HAPPENING THIS MONTH?

Mrs. G. & Mrs. Obaker

What a difference a month makes. Your little ones are doing great! We are so proud of what they have already accomplished. This month is going to be very exciting. We are looking forward to Fall finally making an appearance! Cooler air and the leaves are changing color. We will begin October by talking about owls. Singing songs, reading owl stories, and making owl biscuits. With Halloween approaching, the children will paint bats using marbles. We will make delicious bat cookies. Then onto making ghosts. Believe it or not, the children will use their feet to paint the ghosts! And of course, they will enjoy their Trick or Treat bags and witches’ hats made from crescent rolls. More information will be provided about sending in some goodies for our Halloween bags and details about the class celebration.

Our classroom is embracing Fall and the season’s gifts this month! We’ll be busy exploring apples, pumpkins, and will have some Halloween fun. The month will start with learning about how apples grow and apple trees. We’ll use the fruit for taste testing, stamping, and making art. As we move into our unit on pumpkins, students will learn about the life cycle, we’ll “dissect” one as a class, and we’ll make a “pumpkin” of our own. The end of the month finds us celebrating Halloween! Stay tuned for more specific information about our class’s Halloween party and details. We will wish Mrs. Placek well on her maternity leave at the end of this month and welcome Mrs. Rainsley to our classroom!

We had so much fun during the month of September working on our All About Me unit. This month, our classroom is embracing Fall and all its wonders! We’ll dive into apples, pumpkins, and enjoy some Halloween festivities. We’ll kick off by exploring how apples grow and the life of apple trees. Students will engage in taste testing, stamping, creating art, and learning about sinking and floating with apples. As we transition to pumpkins, we’ll study their life cycle, dissect one together, and even make our own “pumpkin.” To wrap up the month, we’ll celebrate Halloween! Keep an eye out for more details about our class Halloween party on the Bloomz app.

We spent September learning classroom routines, getting to know each other, and learning about our five senses. To start off October, we’ll be making process art to decorate our classroom tree and usher in the new season. We’ll also begin a unit on pumpkins which includes learning about the life cycle and watching it up close. Inspired by the book Pumpkin Jack by Will Hubbell, we’ll prep a pumpkin to be a part of our classroom all the way until it sprouts anew this spring. We’ll use pumpkin seeds in our sensory center, weigh and measure pumpkins using a scale, and will transform our dramatic play area into a pumpkin patch. To finish up the fun, we’ll round out the month with Halloween festivities. Our weekly focal letters will be C through G. For detailed updates and photos, please keep checking our Bloomz app!

Mrs. Bosher

Hard to believe it’s already October! We had such a great September getting to know each other and settling into classroom routines. The fun continues this month with a unit on Fairy Tales. This will give us the opportunity to talk about the elements of a story and the characteristics of fairy tales both old and new. We’ll use this unit to facilitate discussions on kindness & courage. We will roll through Letters C, D, E, F & G as the month progresses. Mrs Bosher can’t wait to get spooky and celebrate Fall & Halloween at the end of the month. Note that while our class party will be on the 31st, the school-wide parade will take place on Wednesday, the 30th. Details to follow!

DIRECTOR’S NOTE

Thank you for your support as your children have adjusted to their new routine. I did want to mention a few items about Halloween. Each is just discovering who he/she is and now we want them to dress up as someone or something else. In each of the classes, we will continue to emphasize that Halloween is just pretend. Your child is more than welcome to wear their Halloween costume to school – look for more information on each class’s specific plans. Please send in a change of clothes that day as most of the children shed their costumes within an hour. The Halloween parade will be held on Wednesday, October 30th at 11:30 am. The T/Th 2s classes are encouraged to participate if possible even though their party is on the 31st.

As the weather starts to get colder, please send in a new change of clothing (winter) to keep in your child’s cubby. Thank you for being extra cautious and respectful by keeping your child home when they are not feeling well. As always thank you for all your support and please let me know if you have any questions or concerns.
