WHAT’S HAPPENING THIS MONTH?

2s

Mrs. G. & Mrs. Obaker

What fun we had with your 2s on Halloween! We could not believe they kept their costumes on the whole time, even masks! This month we will talk about Thanksgiving and the things that we are thankful for. The children will be busy with art projects as we make harvest corn pictures, pumpkin pie magnets and turkeys using leaves. The school will smell delicious because we will be making corn bread, homemade applesauce, and mini pumpkin pies. Your kids are wonderful, and we are having so much fun with them!

Mrs. Turner

We wished Mrs. Placek well on her maternity leave at the end of October and Mrs. Rainsley will be joining our classroom for the next couple months! In November, we will be exploring nocturnal animals, practicing our sorting skills, and working on multi-step directions with our crafts. We will then move on to learning about Thanksgiving with an emphasis on farming. On our farmyard journey we will learn where all that yummy food on our Thanksgiving plates comes from and talk about making healthy choices. We will discuss the people who work on the farm and the tools and vehicles that they use. A farm unit wouldn’t be complete without talking about animals found on the farm! Each day, we will be reading a book relating to our animal units and getting creative with an art project. As we near the holiday our focus will shift to the importance of gratitude. *** Donations of food/cooking magazines (to be used during our Thanksgiving unit) would be greatly appreciated! Thank you!

Mrs. Musci

After enjoying some spooky Halloween fun, we’re diving into a unit on nocturnal animals. We’ll explore the differences between nocturnal and diurnal creatures, focusing on bats, owls, and raccoons along with their habitats. Our activities will include enhancing fine motor skills, letter recognition, and counting as we “feed” letters to a raccoon and create a nighttime number line. We’ll also have fun with shadow play and puppets to discuss light and dark. As we approach the Thanksgiving holiday, we’ll shift our focus to gratitude and friendship, with a bit of turkey-themed fun included. Wishing you and your family a wonderful Thanksgiving!

Mrs. Brown and Mrs. Powell

After the excitement of Halloween, we’re moving into a new unit talking about farms and the fall harvest, the perfect lead-in to Thanksgiving. We’ll be learning about barnyard animals, crops, and farming vehicles. Our sensory center will feature corn for hands-on play, while we work on sorting, fine motor skills, and letter and number recognition. This unit connects with our Thanksgiving theme, where we’ll focus on the path from farm to table, gratitude, family, and our classroom friendships. We’ll continue to explicitly learn the letters and letter sounds H through J while we review all the letters we’ve already learned. We’re looking forward to talking with you about how much your children have grown at our parent-teacher conferences. Wishing you a warm and family-filled Thanksgiving break!

Mrs. Bosher

We are thankful for so much this November! This month brings us farm fun. We’ll talk about all of the amazing things farms give us, farm animals, vehicles etc. We will sort, count, rhyme, pattern and craft our way through the month. The month ends with the Thanksgiving holiday and the perfect opportunity to reflect on all of our reasons to be thankful.

DIRECTOR’S NOTE

Thanksgiving is the perfect time to remember how fortunate we are. We thank you for choosing Dulaney Day Preschool to join in the journey with your children. We adore them and appreciate the support from our parents!
