Mrs. G. & Mrs. Obaker

In the month of February, we will be learning about heart shapes and Valentine’s Day. We will talk about friendships and loved ones. Our art activities will include lots of hearts and the colors, red, pink, and purple. We will transform a cinnamon roll into a heart shape during the baking activity. For our Valentine’s Day party, we will pass out Valentine’s and place each one in a bag that we decorated. To make this easier, we ask that when you bring in Valentine’s from your son/daughter, just write who it was from. We will also learn about arctic animals and explore how animals like polar bears keep warm in their cold homes. February may be a short month, but it sure will be busy and lots of fun!

This month starts with the end of our community helpers unit complete with special visitors from the police department, the fire department and a local veterinarian.  In addition, we’ll be learning about doctors, dentists, and veterinarians. As a part of opening our own Dulaney Day vet clinic, please send your child to school with a stuffy of their choice on Friday, March 10th. Then, as a fun way to celebrate the end of that unit, your child can come to school dressed as what thay want to be when they grow up on Monday, March 13th.  Please see the ClassTag announcements for more details about these special activities.  Moving into mid-month, we’ll celebrate St. Patrick’s Day with rainbow and color science. At the end of the month, we’ll welcome the official start to spring, learning about weather changes and seasonal differences.  We will be studying the life cycle of a plant and even observing the growth of flowers we plant from seeds!

We cannot believe March is here already. We have been having so much fun learning about Community Helpers and all the fun jobs that they do!

We will regroup the following week with a unit on all things rainbow and lucky to prepare for St. Patrick’s Day. Then we will learn about the signs of spring and begin a unit on plants. Your children will learn about the parts of a plant and the life cycle of plants. They will also learn about what plants need to grow. The class will get to practice delayed gratification while we wait for our own plants to grow. So exciting!!

March will be a fun and busy month for our class. We will begin by using our counting circles to count down and celebrate the first day of Spring! We will then introduce our unit on The Dentist and Dental Health. We will open “The Dulaney Day Dentist Office” and even conduct an experiment to show why it is so important to brush our teeth! Later in the month we will begin our Transportation unit which is always a favorite especially when we have our transportation show and tell day! Our Amazing Alphabet Adventure will continue with the letters P, Q, R, and S and of course we will celebrate St. Patrick’s Day with a wee bit of leprechaun magic! Happy [almost] Spring everyone!!

March is here! This year has really been moving very fast despite the craziness. The first week of March brings us Dr. Suess’ birthday and we will be reading many of his books during the week. March comes in like a lion and out like a lamb and during the second week of March we will be concentrating on the weather. It should be an exciting month. If you have any questions, please do not hesitate to contact me!

DIRECTOR’S NOTE

We will have picture day again this year! Irvin Simon will take an individual picture and a class picture.  For those families that have siblings, they also take a sibling shot.  The MW 2s and 3s classes will be taken on Monday, March 20th  and the TTH 2s and 4s classes will be on Tuesday, March 21st.
