Mrs. G. & Mrs. Obaker
Happy New Year from Mrs. G & Mrs. Obaker! We hope you had a restful and joyful break with your families. With winter finally here, we will be learning about bears, penguins, and snowmen, all signs of cold weather. We will begin the month by learning about hibernation and baking bear claws. After we dress a snowman in a hat and scarf, we will make snowman pancakes! Using mittens, our 2s will learn about matching pairs and colors. They will work on fine motor skills as we hang their mittens on a clothesline. January is always a month of discovery and fun! It is so nice to be back with your little ones.

We’re excited to embrace the New Year and look forward to some fun winter weather! This month, we’ll be bringing the outdoors into our classroom by making our own snow, playing with ice, and crafting snowflakes in all shapes and sizes. Along with these engaging sensory and creative activities, we’ll explore the scientific method and learn about the different states of water. We’ll also focus on hibernating and arctic animals. In addition to our daily reading, we’ll dive deeper into two beloved books: *The Mitten* by Jan Brett and *The Snowy Day* by Ezra Jack Keats. Here’s to an indoor winter wonderland!

Mrs. Turner
Happy New Year from Mrs. Turner and Mrs. Rainsley! I hope you had a wonderful winter break. During January we will be learning about arctic animals and animals that hibernate, migrate, and adapt to colder temperatures. We will delve into this new season and weather with some fun sensory and art activities including playing with ice, making snowflakes, and creating some snowy paintings! Adding to our daily books, we will read The Mitten by Jan Brett and Snowmen at Night by Carolyn Buehner to help us explore our winter theme.
Please send your child in with a coat, hat and gloves or mittens so we can enjoy the winter weather! We will try to go outside every day. If the playground is snowy, be on the lookout for an update on the class tag to send in boots.

Mrs. Brown and Mrs. Powell
Happy New Year! After briefly learning about New Year’s and different celebrations around the world, we’ll dive into our winter unit. The adorable book Sneezy the Snowman by Maureen Wright will help us discuss the states of water as well as provide us with the opportunity to create art and do some storytelling. Mid-month, we will start our Star Student project! Please check Bloomz and your child’s take home folder for more information about this exciting activity. We’ll finish out the month with a focal unit on shapes, ending with a “polka dots and checkers” dress up day on Friday, January 31. Our letters of the week will include M through P as we begin to make our way through the back half of the alphabet.

Welcome back! We ease into 2025 by talking about our goals for the year and reviewing classroom procedures and expectations. By our 2nd week back we’ll be ready to dive into all things Winter. This will be a short unit with an emphasis on Snow and brief reviews of our Hibernation and Artic Animal themes from last year. The end of the month sees us all “geared” up for our unit on Transportation. Our letters for the month will be M, N, O & P. I can’t believe that we are mid-alphabet already!
