Happy New Year from Mrs. G & Mrs. Obaker! We hope you had a restful and joyful break with your families. With winter finally here, we will be learning about bears, penguins, and snowmen, all signs of cold weather. We will begin the month by learning about hibernation and baking bear claws. After we dress a snowman in a hat and scarf, we will make snowman pancakes! Using mittens, our 2s will learn about matching pairs and colors. They will work on fine motor skills as we hang their mittens on a clothesline. January is always a month of discovery and fun! It is so nice to be back with your little ones.

Mrs. Brown & Mrs. Musci

We are welcoming the New Year with open arms, as well as hoping for some fun winter weather to enjoy. We will be bringing the outside into our classroom this month, making our own snow, playing with ice, and creating snowflakes of all shapes and sizes. In addition to these fun sensory and creative activities, we will be practicing the scientific method and learning about the states of water. We will spend time learning about hibernating animals and arctic animals. In addition to all of the books we read every day, we will also do a longer exploration of The Mitten by Jan Brett and Snowy Day by Ezra Jack Keats. Here’s to our indoor winter wonderland!

Mrs. Bosher & Mrs. Pawlak

Happy New Year from Mrs. Bosher and Mrs. Pawlak! I hope you had a wonderful winter break. During January we will discuss winter animals. We will learn about animals that hibernate, migrate and how some adapt to colder temperatures. This will give us the opportunity to work on counting and sorting activities. A new season also means we will take the time to discuss our five senses in relation to winter. The books, Bear Snores On by Karma Wilson, The Mitten’by Jan Brett and Snowmen at Night by Carolyn Buehner will help us explore our winter theme. We will shift our focus at the end of the month to polar animals. Penguins, arctic foxes and polar bears…Oh My!

Please send your child in with a coat, hat and gloves or mittens so we can enjoy the winter weather! We will try to go outside every day. If the playground is snowy, be on the lookout for an update on the class tag to send in boots.

Mrs. Howe & Mrs. Powell

Mrs. Powell and I hope you had a wonderful holiday season. This month we will be talking about everything COLD. We will begin the first few days of January ringing in the New Year (thank goodness). We will move into winter. We will explore the winter weather even making our own snow. Stories will include The Snowy Day by Ezra Jack Keats and Snowmen at Night as well as The Mitten by Jan Brett. We will experiment with ice and make snowflakes. Our month will round out with hibernation and migration and arctic animals. But have no fear we will stay warm when we make our very own hot chocolate from scratch with whipped cream, marshmallows, and sprinkles! The cold weather can’t stop us from continuing our alphabet adventure. We will learn the letters H, I, J, and K.
